David Cadman's Bio

David Cadman was born and raised in Calgary and studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design, where he later earned a degree in Bachelor of Design.  He worked as a graphic designer for forty years.  Since his retirement he has been able to pursue his painting career on a full time basis.

David is a juried member of the Riverview Artists, Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, Alberta Society of Artists, and the Calgary Contemporary Arts Society.

David paints impressionistic landscapes and abstracts drawn from his travels and outdoor activities.  Recently his paintings have evolved towards a more abstract direction with an emphasis on pattern and rhythms of the foothills, forests and mountain ranges.  David tries to give his paintings strong contrast and uses colour  to release a vibrant and emotional image.

He paints anything that inspires him.  David’s art expresses movement and mood using both planned and spontaneous use of colour and space.  He likes working in watercolour because its fluid nature lends itself to both quick brush strokes and to subtle and layered applications. In contrast, his fondness for acrylics is an impressionistic style involving layered, patterned brush strokes.
